Dimbola Lodge

The Freshwater home of Julia Margaret Cameron, the famous Victorian portrait photographer. The house is now a museum with permanent exhibitions of Cameron's work and photography of the Isle of Wight pop festival, as well as a programme of visiting exhibitions. There are also regular themed craft workshops for children, and also talks on art, music and poetry.

The Needles Battery

Overlooking the Needles, one of the most rescognisable coastal features in England, the battery was built in the latter part of the 19th century to defend the Solent against France. Well worth a visit, not just for the location, but also for its fascinating history: from graveyard for ancient shipwrecks to testing site for the Black Knight and Black Arrow, Britains' first space rocket.

Botanic gardens, Ventnor
Whether plants are your thing or not, these gardens are worth a wander through. The gardens are situated in a micro climate on the southern cliffs of the Island and overlook the famous Steephill cove. Although donations are welcome the gardens are free and have a play area for children and a cafe.  
 
 
Fort Victoria
One thing you cannot miss when you stay at the house is the historic Fort Victoria. The fort is situated in the most stunning of locations and stopping for a cup of tea and a sandwiche at the cafe is a treat. The Fort also houses a number of attractions, Marine Aquarium, Model Railway, Underwater Archaeology, Island Planetarium, Seashore & Woodland
